A few days ago, I decided to head to Malaysia’s First hotpot spot in Miri with a friend.
Location: 98000 Miri, Sarawak
Operating Hours: Everyday, 11 am–2 am
Malaysia First Hot Pot Miri 马来西亚第一锅
The entrance and interior was Chinese themed with red decorations and wooden seating area.
There was heating plate on each table to keep the pot hot while eating.
Upon entering, we first got the coconut water straight from a coconut- making for a refreshing start.
We got 1 mini hotpot soup, spicy varient. It was served in a pot and had a brothy texture.
To top the soup, there were toppings including fresh garlic, lime, scallions, sesame sauce and more.
Other toppings were celery, seafood sauce, ginger, chili, chives.
Continuing with the long toppings section: fermented beancurd, black soy sauce, Zhejiang vinegar, beef sauce, oyster sauce.
Lastly other sauces like sesame, chili oil, laoganma, BBQ and peanut.
To cook in the hotpot, I got oyster mushrooms which came in generous sizes.
Next we got minced shrimp, which tasted really well with the spicy soup.
The sliced lamb came in a metal dish, thinly sliced and bright pink- looking really fresh.
We also got baby napa cabbage, which was freshly cut and gave a nice leafy crunch to the meal.
In greens, we also got seaweed knots the savoury knots paired well with the sweet shrimp.
All the items made for a nice hearty meal and the hot pot was a nice experience.
Menu
Their menu came in a compact one page split with sections for vegetables/flour consisting of freshly cut veggies, mains like rice and dumplings and lok lok like sliced meat and skewers.
Next page included soup bases: spicy, creamy, mushroom, etc. meat: sliced duck, pork, wagyu and more; seafood: fish, prawns, shrimp, scallops; meat and seafood balls; alternate protein options like soy; and mushrooms: be it enoki or oyster mushrooms.
