Breakfast Buffet at Mercure Hotel Miri
The breakfast buffet was served between 6:30am and 10:30am and the rate for an adult was 55 Malaysian Ringgits if you walk in.
I took the lift to Level 2.
The restaurant was really modern and contemporary in style.
There were so many live counters.
Glass bottles of homemade juices sat right next to glass pots of plain and flavoured yogurt.
There was also some pineapple compote that looked really good.
The live counter for eggs and omelets had different vegetables like mushroom and tomatoes.
Then I went to the hot foods section. The first thing I saw was chicken curry with roti jala.
Other options were beef rendang and fried rice.
I also saw some Singapore style rice noodles, which were thin and delicate.
Condiments like fried shallots and boiled eggs were available.
There were a lot of vegetarian options, like mushrooms and baked tomatoes with pesto sauce.
The chicken breakfast sausage looked quite tasty. The mixed bean stew had been cooked with a lot of tomatoes and was quite a unique dish.
Then there was a dish called Chawanmushi. I looked it up and it was a Japanese dish. It was a savoury Japanese steamed egg custard that was served in small white cups.
There was a huge tureen of fish porridge on one table with condiments like garlic oil, fermented black beans and fried dace.
If a guest didn’t want fish porridge, they could get plain porridge as well. Some light soy sauce and braised peanuts were some of the other optional condiments.
The Arabian tomato rice had some dried fruits, nuts and fried onions.
The Galayet Bandora, which was a Jordan dish of fried tomatoes in olive oil, had a description next to it. So I knew exactly what I would be eating before I served myself.
The cheese manakish, which was a Middle Eastern dish, tasted a little bit like a cheese pizza. The bread was so soft and fluffy.
The buffet was also offering freshly made dimsums with sauces like shrimp chili.
The dim sum options were siew mai, red bean buns and chicken winglets. They were served in bamboo steamers.
Soups like laksa and wanton noodle soup were light and flavourful.
The sambal laksa sauce looked spicy but very tasty.
A coffee machine could be used to make cappuccinos and various types of coffees.
Mixed juice, orange juice and infused water could be poured from taps.
The chilled mango juice was another great option.
Cereals like honey stars and coco crunch would be a great start to breakfast.
The Mercure served some dried fruits like dates and cranberries in glass jars.
And there were options for milk, such as low fat and full cream milk.
Then I went to the pastries and desserts section.
The cakes had been cut into tiny slices. It all looked very pretty and dainty.
For a fresh start to the day, there were plenty of salad options. People could pick the veggies of their choice.
Half a dozen salad dressings were available, along with lettuce leaves.
The fruit Danishes and croissants looked so fresh.
Unsalted butter and different kinds of jams were laid out in pretty bowls.
Some local desserts were also available.
Loaves of bread and rolls were laid out in baskets.
They could be easily sliced and toasted right at the counter.
Freshly cut fruits looked extremely appetizing.
A cold platter of cheese and meat was one of the last things I saw.
I got myself a cup of coffee.
The mini pancakes and donuts were kept at a separate kid’s table.
